Nickel nanometer catalyst thin films were prepared on SiO2/Si substrates using sputtering coater. The effects of ammonia pretreatment on the catalyst films from continuous film to the nanoparticles were investigated. The nanostructures of the Ni thin films as a function of the catalyst film original thickness, the pretreatment time and temperature were discussed. The optimum parameters of etching process were obtained, and the functional mechanism of ammonia was primarily analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to evaluate the obtained nanoparticles. It is demonstrated that the controlled size and density distribution of the nanoparticles can be achieved by employing ammonia etching method.
Two-photon photopolymerization (TPP) with femtosecond laser is a promising method to fabricate threedimensional (3D) photonic crystals (PCs). Based on the TPP principle, the micro-fabrication system has been built. The 3D woodpile PCs with rod space of 2000 nm are fabricated easily and different defects are introduced in order to form the cross-waveguide and the micro-laser structure PCs. Simulation results of the optical field intensity distributions using finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are given, which support the designs and implementation of the PC of two types in theory.
The influence of femtosecond laser-induced damages on viability of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) is investigated. Several cytokinetic processes including cellular damage, recovery and death are discussed. Using femtosecond laser with the power of 100 μW and cutting speed of 2 μm/s, we cut the cellular protuberance with smaller diameter twice in different locations, and then observe the viability of the damaged cells. Under the same conditions, the root of protuberance with larger diameter is cut six times to observe changes of cellular shape. Whether the damage is located in the end, middle or root of protuberance with smaller diameter, the cell viability can recover within 3 h. When the damage is located in the root of protuberance with larger diameter, the damaged cell will die in the way of oncosis. Cytokinetic phenomena including intracellular high Ca2+ concentration, cellular morphologic change, recovery and oncosis are discussed. Meanwhile, high Ca2+ concentration is observed after femtosecond laser surgery. Therefore, femtosecond laser surgery is an important tool for establishing cell damage model and studying cytokinetics.
