Citric acid was used to selectively extract cobalt from limonite-type laterite ores in the presence of ammonium bifluoride.The results show that ammonium bifluoride enhances the leaching of cobalt by citric acid,and 84.5% cobalt is extracted from a laterite ore containing 0.13% Co when leached at ambient temperature for 2 h with 30 g/L citric acid and 10 g/L ammonium bifluoride.Pyrolusite is reduced by citric acid during leaching,cobalt intergrown with which is liberated and subsequently chelated by the citric acid.The extraction of cobalt is enhanced in the presence of ammonium bifluoride because the matrix of silicate minerals is destroyed by ammonium bifluoride and the adsorbed cobalt is subsequently liberated.
A series of reduction experiments of iron ore pellets with hydrogen,carbon monoxide and their mixture were carried out in a laboratory scale shaft furnace.The sticking behavior accompanying reduction of iron ore pellets was investigated.And morphology of the sticking interface forming during reduction was analyzed by SEM equipped with EDS.In order to evaluate the effects of the temperature and gas composition on sticking properties,reduction of iron ore pellets were conducted at 800-1000 ℃.The results show that the sticking strength of the pellets increases with temperature,however,decreases with hydrogen content in reducing gas.For an efficient shaft furnace operation in direct reduction(DR),relative prevention of sticking such as coating of pellets was also developed to solve sticking problem.The results show that CaO is a suitable material for the coating method.
Co-intensification was researched to accelerate gold leaching with regards to its electrochemical nature by using anodic intensifiers of heavy metal ions (Pb2+,Bi3+,Tl+,Hg2+ and Ag+) on the basis of hydrogen peroxide assistant leaching on three different types of materials which were classified as a refractory sulphide gold concentrate,an easily leachable sulphide gold concentrate,and a low grade oxide gold ore according to their leaching characteristics.The results showed that,favorable co-intensification effects on the three materials were obtained and leaching time of gold was effectively shortened to no longer than 12 h from 16 to 24 h for hydrogen peroxide assistant leaching.For the five tested heavy metal ions,Bi3+and Tl+ presented co-intensifying effect on all the three materials,and Hg2+ caused co-intensifying effect on both refractory and easily leachable sulphide gold concentrates,and Pb2+ and Ag+ only had co-intensifying effect on the easily leachable sulphide gold concentrate.
