The recent results on hydrothermal synthesis of mixed rare earth-alkali or ammonium fluorides were presented. The initial ratios of the starting materials, pH value and reaction temperature were the critical factors for obtaining the single-phase product. Four main types of complex rare earth fluorides, AREF4, A2REF5, ARE2F7 and ARE3F10 (A=Na+, K+, Rb+, NH4+), appeared in the primary hydrothermal reactions. The correlation between cation sizes and the formation of mixed rare earth fluorides under mild hydro...
The spectra of RE-doped YPO4 (RE=Ce3+, Pr3+ or Nd3+) have been measured. The spectroscopic and decay kinetics properties of pure host YPO4 were also studied at 8 K and 300 K, which indicated the host had taken part in the luminescent processes of activators. Under the excitation over the bandgap of the host, the electron could relax to the activators. Through the comparison of spectra and decay time, Nd3+ doped YPO4 had better scinillation properties than Ce3+ or Pr3+ inYPO4.
The upconversion emission spectra of Er^3+ doped oxyfluoride tellurite glasses excited by 808 nm laser diode (LD) were measured. The dependence of 550 nm upconversion emission on the excitation intensity was analyzed. Quadratic intensity dependence was only observed at weak excitation intensity. With increasing the excitation intensity, saturation was turned out. The experimental results were fitted to a model based on the rate equations.
Nanosized long-persistent phosphors SrS:Eu^2+, Dy^3+ were prepared by the hydrothermal method. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and charge-coupled device spectrometry. The persistence characteristic was studied using the decay curves. The results showed that the emission intensity decreased sharply with temperature increasing, although the particle size increased. The S2-vacancies caused by oxidization served as shallow traps, and Dy3+ served as deep traps in SrS:Eu^2+, Dy^3+.The afterglow intensity of SrS:Eu^2+, Dy^3+ was higher than that of SrS:Eu2+ prepared at the same temperature. However, the minimization span of initial afterglow with temperature for the former sample was larger than that for the latter.Binary-doped phosphor decayed more slowly than the singly doped one.The afterglow of SrS:Eu^2+, Dy^3+ decayed more quickly with the increase of sintering temperature.
