Impact of the North Atlantic Sea Surface Temperature Tripole on the East Asian Summer Monsoon被引量:41

A strong (weak) East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) is usually concurrent with the tripole pattern of North Atlantic SST anomalies on the interannual timescale during summer, which has positive (negative) SST anomalies in the northwestern North Atlantic and negative (positive) SST anomalies in the subpolar and tropical ocean. The mechanisms responsible for this linkage are diagnosed in the present study. It is shown that a barotropic wave-train pattern occurring over the Atlantic-Eurasia region likely acts as a link between the EASM and the SST tripole during summer. This wave-train pattern is concurrent with geopotential height anomalies over the Ural Mountains, which has a substantial effect on the EASM. Diagnosis based on observations and linear dynamical model results reveals that the mechanism for maintaining the wave-train pattern involves both the anomalous diabatic heating and synoptic eddy-vorticity forcing. Since the North Atlantic SST tripole is closely coupled with the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), the relationships between these two factors and the EASM are also examined. It is found that the connection of the EASM with the summer SST tripole is sensitive to the meridional location of the tripole, which is characterized by large seasonal variations due to the north-south movement of the activity centers of the NAO. The SST tripole that has a strong relationship with the EASM appears to be closely coupled with the NAO in the previous spring rather than in the simultaneous summer.

本文的相关分析表明,在1948~2009年期间东亚夏季风(EASM)与前期春季(4~5月)北大西洋涛动(NAO)之间存在显著的年际相关关系,但这种关系具有明显的年代际变化特征,即在1970s发生了由正相关到负相关的转变.进一步的合成分析指出,春季NAO与EASM之间年际相关关系的转变,与春季和前期冬季(12~3月)北大西洋海盆尺度的海-气耦合模,即NAO-海温异常(SSTA)三极子耦合模的影响作用密切相关.春季NAO异常对EASM年际变化的影响主要依赖于前者所激发的SSTA三极子模态由春季到夏季的记忆性.然而,该模态不但受到春季NAO的控制,而且还会受到前冬NAO-SSTA三极子耦合模的增强或削弱作用,其中后者的影响作用具有明显的年代际变化特征.在1970s之前,前冬NAO-SSTA三极子耦合模对春季SSTA三极子模态存在明显的非对称作用,即前者主要对后者的正位相异常存在显著的削弱作用;在1970s之后,前者对后者正/负位相异常的影响作用均不明显.因此,在春季NAO对称作用与前冬NAO-SSTA三极子耦合模非对称作用的共同影响下,春季NAO与SSTA三极子模态的年际相关关系存在显著年代际变化,进而引起了春季NAO与EASM的年际相关关系在1970s的转变.

不规则区域海浪嵌套模式设计及其应用实例被引量:1

本研究针对第三代MASNUM海浪模式的并行设计特点,设计实现了并行化不规则嵌套计算,从而提高了海浪模式嵌套模拟的灵活性和时效性.选取浙江舟山、宁波附近海域,利用2011年的NCEP再分析风场作为强迫,采用大、中、小网格并利用该嵌套模式进行了三重嵌套应用.其中大、中区域实验均采用规则矩形方式设置开边界,大区域的模拟结果为中区域嵌套实验提供开边界条件,同时中区域嵌套输出小区域嵌套实验在不规则开边界上的边界条件.中区域的实验结果与卫星观测资料的对比表明:嵌套实验比无嵌套实验的误差小30%左右,二者在开边界附近的有效波高差异较大,达到0.5 m以上.8月份中区域的无嵌套实验所得有效波高平均为0.7 m,最大值为3.6m,嵌套实验结果则分别为1.0、7.1 m,后者更接近以往观测资料所显示的平均波高1.5~2.0 m和最大波高5.0~10.0 m的结果,表明该常规嵌套方式的可行性.小区域实验也包含嵌套和无嵌套2个实验,开边界均采用不规则形状.实验结果表明:在5~8月期间,嵌套实验的波向与无嵌套的波向差异较明显,主要表现为外海传入;在6~7月份,嵌套实验与无嵌套实验有效波高的差值达1.0m以上;嵌套实验的周期普遍大于无嵌套的模拟结果,其最大差异为8 s.上述实验结果表明,该嵌套模式可实现规则开边界区域和不规则区域的嵌套模拟,可应用于复杂近岸区域的海浪数值模拟和预报,有效提高对关注区域海浪的模拟能力.

Preliminary Results of Assessing the Mixing of Wave Transport Flux Residualin the Upper Ocean with ROMS被引量:2

The effects of the mixing of wave transport flux residual(Bvl) on the upper ocean is studied through carrying out the control run(CR) and a series of sensitive runs(SR) with ROMS model.In this study,the important role of Bvl is revealed by comparing the ocean temperature,statistical analysis of errors and evaluating the mixed layer depth.It is shown that the overestimated SST is improved effectively when the wave-induced mixing is incorporated to the vertical mixing scheme.As can be seen from the vertical structure of temperature 28℃ isotherm changes from 20 min CR to 35 m in SR3,which is more close to the observation.Statistic analysis shows that the root-mean-square errors of the temperature in 10 m are reduced and the correlation between model results and observation data are increased after considering the effect of Bvl.The numerical results of the ocean temperature show improvement in summer and in tropical zones in winter,especially in the strong current regions in summer.In August the mixed layer depth(MLD) which is defined as the depth that the temperature has changed 0.5℃ from the reference depth of 10 m is further analyzed.The simulation results have a close relationship with undetermined coefficient of Bvl,sensitivity studies show that a coefficient about 0.1 is reasonable value in the model.

提出了波浪输运通量剩余量BSMT在Princeton Ocean Model(POM)中的实现方式,探讨了BSMT的作用机制。BSMT对上层海洋有重要的影响,其作用效果与背景温度场的梯度密切相关。BSMT可使浅水区和黑潮附近区域的上50m层升温约0.1-0.3℃,且升温幅度与背景温度场的梯度及海浪过程密切相关。初步研究结果表明,BSMT作为温度控制方程驱动源项可以影响海洋上层结构,为进一步海浪-海流相互作用研究奠定了基础。

利用近20a(1993—2011年)卫星高度计的实测数据分析了年平均海浪的空间特征及海浪的多年变化趋势。研究结果表明:海浪的大值分布路径与风场的大值分布有明显的一致性,风场是影响海浪空间分布的重要因素。海浪在北太平洋有明显的减小趋势;在东北大西洋有弱的减小趋势,与此相反,西北大西洋的海浪有明显的增加趋势;海浪在印度洋、大西洋的低纬度区域及太平洋东岸的低纬度区域有弱的增加趋势;在30°S~45°S的南太平洋区域增加趋势较强。

An Introduction to the Coupled Model FGOALS1.1-s and Its Performance in East Asia被引量:12

The spectral version 1.1 of the Flexible Global Ocean-atmosphere-land System (FGOALS1.1-s) model was developed in the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophys- ical Fluid Dynamics at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (LASG/IAP). This paper reports the major modifications to the physical parameterization package in its atmospheric component, including the radia- tion scheme, convection scheme, and cloud scheme. Furthermore, the simulation of the East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) by FGOALS1.1-s is examined, both in terms of climatological mean state and interannual variability. The results indicate that FGOALS1.1-s exhibits significant improvements in the simulation of the balance of energy at the top of the atmosphere: the net radiative energy flux at the top was 0.003 W m-2 in the 40 years fully coupled integration. The distribution of simulated sea surface temperature was also quite reasonable, without obvious climate drift. FGOALS1.1-s is also capable of capturing the major features of the climatological mean state of the EASM: major rainfall maximum centers, the annual cycle of precipitation, and the lower-level monsoon circulation flow were highly consistent with observations in the EASM region. Regarding interannual variability, simulation of the EASM leading patterns and their relationship with sea surface temperature was examined. The results show that FGOALS1.1-s can reproduce the first leading pattern of the EASM and its close relationship with the decaying phase of the ENSO. However, the model lacked the ability to capture either the second major mode of the EASM or its relationship with the developing phase of the ENSO.

综合考虑作物生育期内逐旬光、温、水气候条件的影响,通过SVD和EOF方法构建一个综合气候因子,结合经济资料建立吉林省经济-气候模型,并应用于吉林省粮食单产的模拟和年景评估。结果表明:综合气候因子对吉林省粮食单产的影响主要为正效应,经济-气候模型能对吉林省粮食单产和年景进行较好的评估。

基于观测资料的海浪与混合层深度相关性分析

从观测数据角度出发,考察海浪与上层海洋混合层深度的变化关系。采用卫星高度计和三套温度观测数据,利用改进的混合层深度提取方法,获得海洋混合层深度。简要分析了多年月平均的有效波高和混合层深度的空间分布特征及时间变化规律,并进一步分析了它们的相关性。二者直接相关性分析的结果表明,在南北半球的中纬度地区二者的相关系数较大,而赤道地区较小。滤除年周期的气候态月平均场后,计算的距平相关系数在赤道区域较小;但在太平洋东部、南部和南印度洋存在一个大值区。此外,进一步研究了有效波高和混合层深度年际距平的相关系数,其空间分布特征与二者的距平相关系数的分布特征类似。为探究混合层深度的影响因素,同时也分析了风场与混合层深度的相关系数。综合上述结果,海浪和上层海洋的混合层深度之间存在着一定的相关性,海浪过程是风输入能量向次表层海洋传播的一个重要途径。

The present paper presents a concise summary of our recent studies on the Asian summer monsoon,with highting decadal and inter- decadal scales. The studies on the long- term variations of the Asian summer monsoon and its impacts on the change in the summer precipitation in China are reviewed. Moreover,recent changes in the Asian summer monsoon and summer precipitation in East Asia(including Meiyu precipitation)are discussed. Finally,the future changes of the Asian summer monsoon are also pointed out in this paper.
