There is a clear tendency of cultural turn in translation studies. This paper traces the origin and development of this tendency,and focuses on a discussion of the relationship between translation criteria and culture and concludes that any translation criterion is closely related to culture and any translation practice is culturally confined. Thus,taking cultural factors into consideration in translation is a dominant tendency,which can help the healthy development of translation studies.
