Molecular Evidence for Primary Producers and Paleo-environmental Conditions in Mesoproterozoic in the Xuanlong Depression in North China

The molecular organic compounds have been identified by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) from Mesoproterozoic rocks in the Xuanlong (宣龙) depression in North China. The main saturated compounds are n-alkanes, monomethylalkanes, n-alkylcyclohexanes, acyclic isoprenoids, and hopanes. The dominant lower-molecular-weight n-alkanes are indicative of the main contribution of microorganisms, in particular, the chemosynthetic bacteria. The presence of abundant monomethylalkanes (mid- and end-branched) and the long chained (>C20) acyclic isoprenoids indicates the existence of abundant bacteria and/or archaea in ancient oceans. The low abundance of pristane and phytane is suggestive of the relatively low abundance of photosynthetic autotrophs in comparison with chemosynthetic bacteria in the Mesoproterozoic oceans in North China. The sedimentary environmental condition is suboxic/anoxic, as indicated by the low value of the Pr/Ph ratio as well as the presence of abundant sulfur-bearing organic compounds, consistent with the other geochemical data in North China and elsewhere in the world. Both the composition of the primary producers and the sedimentary environmental conditions are favorable for the formation of hydrocarbon source rocks.

Variation in Solvent-Extractable Lipids and n-Alkane Compound-Specific Carbon Isotopic Compositions with Depth in a Southern China Karst Area Soil被引量:1

Because literatures about the lipid compositions of modern soils in karst areas are scarce,we have studied the soil horizons overlying the Heshang(和尚) Cave that has provided paleoclimate records from speleothem lipid contents.Our analysis reveals a series of n-alkanes,free fatty acids,n-alkanols and n-alkan-2-ones distribution and relative abundance changing with the depth,and in which the ratios of the lower molecular weight to higher molecular weight n-alkanes,free fatty acids,n-alkanols and n-alkan-2-ones have a peak at a subsurface depth of 5 to 10 cm.An accompanying peak in 17β(H),21β(H)-hop-22(29)-ene(diploptene)and a shift to less negative n-alkane carbon isotopic values also identify this layer in the karst soil.This pattern indicates the existence of a subsurface soil layer in which the microorganisms that produce these compounds are especially abundant.The carbon isotopic values of individual plant wax n-alkanes are about 3‰ greater at the base of the 30-to 40-cm soil profile than in the surface layer,probably as a result of selective microbial degradation of n-alkanes from different primary sources.The lipids and carbon isotopic values of individual plant wax n-alkanes study of the overlying soil show a strong microbial activity in this karst soil and help in interpreting the lipid compositions and specific carbon isotopic value of n-alkanes of the stalagmites of the Heshang Cave for paleoenvironmental reconstructions.

Microbial and molecular fossils from the Permian Zoophycos in South China被引量:6

The trace fossil Zoophycos was enriched in the lower part of the Guadalupian Maokou Formation of Permian in Laibin, Guangxi of South China, and characterized by observable lamellae within its spreiten. Associated with these lamellae are the prolific coccus- and spirillum-shaped microbe fossils. These microbes morphologically identified are 0.4―3.0 μm in diameter or length. Molecular fossils, including normal alkanes (dominated by C18, without an odd-over-even predominance), acyclic isoprenoids (such as pristane (Pr) and phytane (Ph)), extended tricyclic terpanes, pentacyclic triterpanes, steranes, al-kylcyclohexanes, dibenzothiophenes, benzonaphthothiophenes, benzobisbenzothiophenes, were in-strumentally identified in the wackestone characterized by the occurrence of abundant Zoophycos (composite ichnofabric indices are 4) and crowded microbial fossils. The value of the Pr/Ph ratio is less than 1, indicative of a dysoxic condition. The identification of abundant sulfur compounds (the thio-phene series) related to the contribution of reductive sulfur favors the occurrence of sulphate-reducing bacteria. The association of abundant microbial colonies with microbial molecular fossils within the spreiten suggests that trace fossils Zoophycos would be a multifunctional garden carefully constructed by the Zoophycos-producer, where different microbial colonies were orderly and carefully planted and cultured in different minor lamellae within spreiten. Hence, it is proposed that the Zoophycos-producer symbiosed with microbial colonies on the mutual basis of food supply and the redox conditions.

Characterstics of seasonal variations of leaf n-alkanesand n-alkenes in modern higher plants in Qingjiang, Hubei Province, China被引量:10

On the basis of GC and GC-MS analyses, the seasonal variation of leaf lipids is observed in five plant species in Qingjiang in Hubei Province. The CPI values (carbon preference index) of n-alkanes decrease gradually from May to November, though the carbon number distributions and the predominant carbon number in an individual species keep unchanged. The declined CPI values might be caused by the leaf fading, which is further supported by a comparison of the defoliated leaves with the fresh leaves. This observation infers the CPI values of n-alkanes in Quaternary sediments can be used as a tool to index the humification, and thus the climatic and the environmental conditions. The plants analyzed here show a remarkable difference in n-alkanes abundance, suggesting their differential contribution to the n-alkanes identified in sediments. The abundance and the compound species of the n-alkenes detected in the plant leaves change greatly with the seasons due to the influence of temperature, with the least compounds being identified in August.

利用气相色谱和气相色谱-质谱联用仪分析了湖北清江岩溶地区5种植物叶片类脂物的季节性变化特征.随季节的变化,同一植物叶片正构烷烃的碳数分布范围和主峰碳数不变,但正构烷烃的碳优势指数(CPI)从5月到11月逐渐降低,这种变化可能与植物叶片在枯萎过程中类脂物的变化有关,活体叶片与相应植物落叶的比较也证实了这点.这反映了在第四纪沉积物中正构烷烃CPI可能与腐殖化过程有关而可以指示与之相关的气候环境条件.不同植物的正构烷烃含量差别较大,对沉积物的输入贡献不一.正构烯烃含量和种类明显随季节变化,可能与环境温度变化有关.8月份温度最高,正构烯烃的种类最少.

大九湖泥炭柱样的木质素特征被引量:6

根据大九湖泥炭柱样的木质素特征,结合C/N、δ13C和δ15N数据,分析了有机物的来源和降解特征。结果表明,陆地C3高等植物是有机物的主要来源。木质素的S/V和C/V参数指示该泥沼的主要维管植物是草本被子植物。有机碳含量(OC)的变化与这些植被参数具有良好的对应关系,说明植被变化是控制有机碳含量的重要因素。(Ad/Al)v和(Ad/Al)s参数表明泥炭中的木质素经历了中等程度的氧化降解,而棕腐菌的去甲基/去甲氧基过程是控制木质素含量的主要降解途径。木质素在埋藏后的降解很小,其降解程度更多地受对应年代的环境条件的控制,例如,在温暖湿润的全新世气候最适宜期,木质素降解程度显著高于之前的寒冷干燥时期。

分析了梁子湖8.35 kaB.P.以来沉积物中有机质δ(13C)的组成特征,并与代表印度洋季风的四川红原泥炭δ(13C)序列及代表东亚季风的长白山哈尼泥炭δ(13C)序列进行了对比,探讨了早全新世以来不同阶段的气候特点及古东亚季风与印度洋季风对该区的影响。研究表明,梁子湖在其形成演化过程中存在两种典型的湖泊沉积环境。5.98 kaB.P.以前δ(13C)值偏负,气候温暖湿润,有机质以湖泊内源水生生物为主,δ(13C)值与湖泊生产力有关。其早期东亚季风对该区的影响占较大优势。全新世大暖期中期(5.98~3.67 kaB.P.),气候持续暖湿,温度与降水达到顶峰,δ(13C)值也达到序列中的最小阶段,其δ(13C)值偏负与浮游生物生产力的增加有很大的关系。3.67~3.29 kaB.P.是气候突变期,δ(13C)值变幅达6‰。3.29 kaB.P.以后δ(13C)值逐渐偏正,气候逐渐变冷干,沉积环境发生较大变化,有机质以陆源C3植物碎屑为主,此时期东亚季风开始加强,印度洋季风持续减弱,但该区受印度洋季风影响更强烈。研究显示,东亚季风与印度洋季风强弱转换和时空迁移的影响对长江中游地区气候环境的演化具有重要作用。
