Simulations of Stimulated Raman Scattering in Low-Density Plasmas

Stimulated Raman particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations scattering (SRS) in a low-density The backward stimulated Raman plasma slab is investigated by scattering (B-SRS) dominates initially and erodes the head of the pump wave, while the forward stimulated Raman scattering (F-SRS) subsequently develops and is located at the rear part of the slab. Two-stage electron acceleration may be more efficient due to the coexistence of these two instabilities. The B-SRS plasma wave with low phase velocities can accelerate the background electrons which may be further boosted to higher energies by the F-SRS plasma wave with high phase velocities. The simulations show that the peaks of the main components in both the frequency and wave number spectra occur at the positions estimated from the phase-matching conditions.

Large amplitude electromagnetic solitons in intense laser plasma interaction被引量:1

This paper shows that the standing, backward- and forward-accelerated large amplitude relativistic electromagnetic solitons induced by intense laser pulse in long underdense collisionless homogeneous plasmas can be observed by particle simulations. In addition to the inhomogeneity of the plasma density, the acceleration of the solitons also depends upon not only the laser amplitude but also the plasma length. The electromagnetic frequency of the solitons is between about half and one of the unperturbed electron plasma frequency. The electrostatic field inside the soliton has a one-cycle structure in space, while the transverse electric and magnetic fields have half-cycle and one-cycle structure respectively. Analytical estimates for the existence of the solitons and their electromagnetic frequencies qualitatively coincide with our simulation results.

PIC-MC Code to Model Fast Electron Beam Transport Through Dense Matter被引量:2

A PIC (particle-in-cell)-MC (Monte Carlo) code to model electron beam transport into dense matter is developed. The background target is treated as a cold, stationary fluid and the fast electrons as particles with the relativistic motions. The process is described by a particle-in-cell method with consideration of the influence of both the self-generated electric and magnetic fields as well as collisions between the fast electrons and the target. The collisional part of the code is solved by the Monte Carlo-type method. Furthermore by assuming that the background current balances with the fast electron current, the electric field is given by the Ohm's law and the magnetic field is calculated from the Faraday's law. Both are solved in a two-dimensional cylindrical geometry. The algorithms implemented in the code are demonstrated and the numerical experiments are performed for monoenergy homogeneous fast electron beam transport in an aluminum target when the fields, collision and angular scattering are switched on and off independently.

Three-Dimensional PIC-MC Modeling for Relativistic Electron Beam Transport Through Dense Plasma被引量:1

We have developed a three dimensional (3D) PIC (particle-in-cell)-MC (Monte Carlo) code in order to simulate an electron beam transported into the dense matter based on our previous two dimensional code. The relativistic motion of fast electrons is treated by the particle-in-cell method under the influence of both a self-generated transverse magnetic field and an axial electric field, as well as collisions. The electric field generated by return current is expressed by Ohm's law and the magnetic field is calculated from Faraday's law. The slowing down of monoenergy electrons in DT plasma is calculated and discussed.

应用一维Vlasov和Maxwell耦合程序详细研究了激光等离子体相互作用中的基本问题——受激拉曼散射(SRS).通过研究发现,SRS的产生与电子速度分布函数在相空间中的结构密切相关,当电子速度分布函数形成相空间涡旋时,背向SRS光大幅增加,而当电子等离子体波相速度附近的电子速度分布函数曲线变平坦后,背向SRS光基本停止发生.在模拟中观测到了SRS的爆发、电子速度分布函数形成相空间涡旋、电子俘获等清晰的物理图像.

讨论高斯型强激光束在具有初始柱对称密度分布的低密度冷等离子体中传播时,等离子体密度分布的不同对激光自聚焦的影响.推导出可以判断更有利于自聚焦发生的评价函数,这样通过比较不同密度分布的评价函数值就可以判断哪种密度分布更有利于自聚焦的发生.为了说明这种方法的有效性,对评价函数进行分析得出:在相同的激光场中等离子体柱的轴心密度给定时(以激光的光轴为轴),离轴越远的地方密度越大及密度变化越陡,自聚焦越容易发生;相对论效应与有质动力共同作用比相对论的单独作用,自聚焦更容易发生.数值模拟证实了评价函数能准确的预测在不同的等离子体密度分布中哪种密度分布使激光的自聚焦更容易发生.
