This research investigates Chinese intermediate EFL learners' errors in their writing at lexical, syntactical and textual levels based on the theories and researches of vocabulary recognition, error analysis and cohesion in the domain of discourse analysis. Both statistic and linguistic analysis were made to shed light on the learners' most incompetent aspects of the target language. The results show that the learners' greatest difficulty in their writing is grammar, which is followed by use of words and textual cohesion. It is concluded that different linguistic levels display different features of errors and therefore require different treatments.
