The location of Ye, the capital of the Minyue state in the Qin and early Han period and a county of the mid Western Han, has long been of concern and has been hotly debated in academic circles. A systematic study of relevant Han and Tang historical documents in combination with new archaeological discoveries in the Minyue region suggest that the city of Ye must have been in the present-day Fuzhou area. Analysis of the historical evolution of the ancient Minyue area shows that the center of the Minyue state and Ye county must have been in Fujiang. Meanwhile, the lower Minjiang River valley was the traditional center of the Minyue people's culture, and Fuzhou in the area must have been the location of Ye city. Recent numerous archaeological discoveries in the Fuzhou area prove it to have been of the size of Ye as a central city. Ye city was not located in the northern Fujian, although the latter was another center of the Minyue state.
