The Liangzhu culture was an indigenous culture possessing rather high productive forces and distributed across China's Taihu Lake region in the Neolithic Age. As its formation and development were closely related to the geographic conditions in this territory, when we research into itsorigin, we should reveal its geographic environments, which is of great signficance to the study of Chinese civilization. The present paper makes a macroscopic archaeogeoscientific analysis of the Pingyao andLiangzhu areas where the culture was principally distributed, reports the investigation of ancient siteswith the remote sensing technique rather than conventional methods, and works out numerical and photographical maps of ancient sites on the scale of 1 : 50,000 for the two areas by using the pictorial infor-mation processing computer software and GIS software.
