In the presence of solid base catalyst KF-Al 2O 3, 2-methylbenzothiazole was condensated with aromatic aldehydes in DMF to give 2-styrylbenzothiazoles in yields of 80% to 92%. The maxinum absorption frequencies of the ultraviolet spectra in sixteen organic solvents finely correlate with the Hammett′s substituent coefficients.
Five furan chalcones were synthesized by condensation of α acetofuranone with aromatic aldehydes in the presence of KF Al 2O 3.The UV Spectra of compounds 3(a～e)in sixteen solvents have been measured.Linear relationship between V uv max and σ + p is obtained.
